"I am the vine; you are the branches." (John 15:5)

Stop and Listen

Sometimes we get caught up preparing our talk, getting snacks together, or cleaning up before people come and totally forget about just how important and valuable this meeting may be for the people sitting in the group (including us!). That’s one of Satan’s tricks – he wants us to focus on those things and forget about the people coming and what could happen based on tonight’s discussion.

Decisions are made, help sought, courses corrected, problems brought out into the light. These are the common things that happen in small groups and not only do we get to be a part of these  life changing meetings, we are God’s instrument to steer and direct discussion. Sometimes it’s like herding cats, but we do what we can 🙂

As you prepare for your next meeting, take a moment and forget about the small stuff and remember that God is watching over us. He pours himself into us as we give time and energy to our people. Be sure to take a moment in private and ask for His guidance. Listen for His voice and see if He has something for you to hear before people start coming.

You can always pick up or make the coffee as people get there. It’s a lot tougher to take even 60 seconds to be silent and listen. God, the creator of everything, everywhere wants to help me lead my group well. Am I willing to take a moment and listen to what He might have to say?
