"I am the vine; you are the branches." (John 15:5)

God Will Not Shout Over the Noise

I was having a conversation with a very wise person in my life recently. As we were talking about hearing God, he said something that I thought was profound. He said that “God will not shout over the noise of our life”. Which means that if we want to hear Him, we need to be in quiet places at quiet times.

In The Screwtape Letters, one of the weapons, CS Lewis says that Satan uses against us is constant noise. It’s hard for me to imagine what that looked like in 1942, but I imagine that what some of us experience on a daily basis would send CS Lewis running away in the other direction ‘fleeing evil’ as he saw just how much noise we have in our lives and what that noise consists of.

Satan has so many of us addicted to constant noise and activity in our lives. Allowing yourself to hear God may mean that you have to deliberately break that cycle. If God spoke to you today in His calm and quiet voice – would you hear him?!?
